I believe that if you can clear your throat simply and then go on without disturbing everything at the table, like clearing your voice that is okay. At the dinner table thought you must respect others you wouldn't sneeze and choke and spit up mucus there either. Keep it like your grandma don't do it if you wouldn't do it in front of her eating.

most of chinese do that at the dinner table or whereever they want. (i'm not racism, sorry if i disaapoint some chinese, but it's the truth. )

but for me i'm not chinese,i growth up in a different culture. that cause me feel it's so disgusting, if people do it while i'm still having meal.

but some case that some people have to do,it will be polite,if they walk out and do it in a toilet or at the smoking area or wherever nearby that away from dinner table

Adults are *allowed* to clear their throats *aloud* IMO if it's a quick cough or *ahem*. Coughing up lungers should be a bathroom activity.

Allowed, not aloud. Kids, adults and anyone else can clear their throats...but first, say: Excuse me!

Depends what dinner table really.
If you are out with others I would try not to. Or do it as quitely as possible.

My husband does it all the time and if really gets on my nerves.

Its rude, but sometimes necessary, it would probably be nicer if they got up from the table and did it, but some people have problems with it especially during allergy season.
My family will sometimes make other noises at the table which are really disgusting

If you really need to clear your throat, try and excuse yourself and go outside, if that is not possible please put you hands over you mouth and apologise for having to do this
