I am 8 months pregnant and plan on breastfeeding when baby arrives. I heard that the Ameda Purely Yours breast pump is comparable to the Medela but a lot cheaper. Has anyone used the Ameda and is it as good as the Medela? I really don't want to spend $250 on a breast pump

Also I used the pricey Avent bottles with my first son but realized they began leaking after a few months. This time I don't want to spend so much on bottles. I saw these http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006IJRU.16._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS384_.jpg yesterday and wondered if anyone has used them. Are they conducive with BF'ing? Thanks

This pump is terrific!! My son is 7 wks old and I return to work full time in just a few weeks, so a great pump was a must. I began expressing milk 2-3 weeks ago to get him adjusted to bottle feeding while I am away. I can double pump (collecting anywhere from 6-8 ounces) in less than ten minutes. I too was set on a Medela until a girlfriend of mine recommended the Purely Yours. No regrets here, save the cash.

If you live in the USA, look into buying a pump from a Canadian company like http://www.kidalog.net/ because you can save money! I got my PIS there in 1996 for far less than it cost other places. (The exchange rate between US and Canada is usually really good.) I think I paid around $175 including some storage bags for a brand new PIS.

DO NOT buy a used breastpump. The pumps you purchase are considered "single user" items like a toothbrush. They are different from rental pumps and not intended to be used by more than one person as milk can back up into the pump.

I've used the PIS and it's really good. I've never used the PY, but I've heard good things about it from others.
