Does anyone else think, or have they ever thought, evolution can
go only one way now. To me, that way is the mind.
If the physical body evolves (more fingers, heads, legs etc) we try to find a cure. in the meantime, they evolving are ostracised.

Whereas, if the mind evolves, that person is regarded as fantastic, or a genius. The mind sticks out to me like a sore thumb as evolution goes.

I mean that, if the mind evolved (or devolved) to enable things we couldn't imagine today. not its ability in perfection as we see it today ( memory etc.)

Ok capm' but i din't want to place my question in the jokes. i have wondered this for a long time. i chose a place where real thinkers come. i would say that we all evolve at different rates. psycologists must be somewhere in advance, to help the not so evolved. it's deep i know. next time i'll forget it and then who do i turn to? you?

I'm not so sure that filling one's head with knowledge or talent goes beyond personal evolution.

I am not really sure what your question is but here goes. If you are asking about evolution of the mind, then yes, our minds are constantly evolving.
Think about how many 100's of thousands of years it tool for the neandrethal brain to develop before the cro-magnon stage of mankind, where abilities like speech and other abilities were formed, and how many years before it has evloved into what we are now.....
How many 100's of thousands of years do you suppose it will take before we humans will be able to develop and utlilize out brain's capabilities that we currently possess (that we are currently unaware of). All we can now do, is explain things with religion, instinct, or intuition. A few have been able to access the abilities that the "other, unused" 90% of our brain's capabilities.
Think about when you first touched a computer. You probably only knew how to do a couple of things. As you used it more, tried different applications, figured out or were taught about other applications.....you learned more of your computer's capabilities and limitations. That is how our brains are.
In the grand scheme of things, if we look back into the evelutionary process from the earliest time on current record, up to now, we can only see a small fraction of how far we have come, or evolved. What do you suppose things will be like, if we look forward into our futures, about that same length of time? No one knows and no one will, because we will not live long enough to actually see what will happen, but we can theorize based on our past.....
Think about cell regeration. There are those that are opposed to the study of stem cell research, which impedes our learning and knowledge of how to cure or regenerate cell tissue. Our own free will (or the will of our authorities) hinders our understanding of this process........as does religious theories, laws, morals, etc.
You seem to be really interested in paelentology and science. You might like a new tv show called Eureka, and another called The 4400. The 4400 is now into it's third season, but you can buy or rent the first two seasons on DVD. Eureka is on it's first season now. The 4400 is on USA, and Eureka is on the SciFi channel.

Besides the fact that captmhunt is a looser...

I think your right that the next frontier to expand is the mind. We have evolved the ability for higher level thinking as our physical brains enlarged with the addition of the neocortex.

I do not think that the skull size will increase to accommodate a larger physical brain. What I do hope is that we will evolve in the respect of an increased number of neural networks.

As information becomes more complex, the population increases, multi-tasking is the norm, we humans are in overload. Something has to give and what it should be is an increase in our capacity to cope with the stresses of modern day life through evolution of the mind.

i dont think people are really evolving anymore.

there is nothing to kill people off and everyone is screwing everone.

i do think people are breeding themselves into increasingly defined classes. maybe there are some people who are getting smarter by only breeding with other smart people. but at the very least i would say evolution has dramaticly slowed down because even the offspring of those two smart people is likely to wind up banging some hot chick who is an airhead.

you bring up a good point about evolution of the body though. i think youre probably right.

Actually, an evolved mind is counterproductive to the theory. We have found treatments for many diseases that would have caused early death in many people. There for these people will pass down their weaknesses. We have dummy proofed society to by making careless people wear seatbelts and motorcycle helmets.

Your question is about physical evolution, and I believe that our bodies are evolving, we just can not see it. It is internal. Like acclimating to the poisons in our environment.

yes i think the mind is the next on the evolution timeline however i wouldnt discount our physical bodies, our small toes are getting smaller, our feet our getting longer....

perhaps we are gearing towards fin feet so we can swim after global warming? LOL

i wish i could be alive to see where we are heading, how exciting!

No, evolution can be greater than having extra limbs...eventually, we'll be higher developed humans.
