I went through that and here's what helped me:

Develop your social skills by attending school activities such as debating club, games, dances, sport events, also cultural events in your community that are frequently attended by your peers.

Pay careful attention to personal hygiene, grooming and your health. Do appropriately dress for whatever the occasion. Develop an interest in listening to others talk and you'll develop your conversational skills as you meet new people--It'll help you to become closer to those you know and get along well with as time progresses.

Choose to be friendly with peers who have similar goals and values as yourself. Make the people who are most important in your life proud of you and you'll feel good about yourself. Above all else, remember you must always be a friend to yourself. Best wishes to you.

Joining clubs (like student council, sports, other organizations) is the easiest way to make new friends because you share a common interest/activity.

It sounds like you're already making an effort to making new friends, and that's great. It's not always easy making your acquaintances or "school friends" into close or best friends. Don't give up!

Find excuses to hang out outside of school. There's a lot of movies out this summer. Maybe you'd like to have a study group for a difficult class. Or maybe have a fun day at the pool or beach.

I go to a big school too. i am not sure how many people there are but it is most likely like yours. I went to high schooll with a lot of friends from my middle school but i had no classes with any of them. i had to make all new friends. so i found a girl sitting all by herself and started talking to her about how i was so lost and she said she was lost to. We had the same problem and everyday we sat together and talked all the time and before we knew we were and still are best friends. So be yourself and don't be scared to say you have no new friends and are looking for some. But if you cant say that try to find some people that are in a lot of the same classes as you and sit by them one day and talk and do that every day. I bet you have a lot of new friends in no time.

Get involved in smaller groups...ie clubs or other extracurricular activities.

I moved from a school of about 300 to 2500 between sophmore and junior year. I volunteered to manage one of the sports teams and joined a couple of clubs. I never became one of the popular kids, but had a nice circle of friends with a couple of close ones.

It didn't happen overnight, but within a couple of months I was happy with my social circle.

Identify the ones that have similiar interests to you and invite them to do those interests. Example. If you smoke weed, find the stoners. If you are a math nerd, join the math club. If you are a slut, start sleeping around. If you like sports, find the jocks and hang out.
If someone does not like you, there are over 3000 others to talk to.

i think the best way is to join clubs/sports/intermurals and find people that have similar interests to you. don't sweat it, the first few days in a big school always feel a bit overwhelming but just keep being you and talk to people naturally and you'll make friends in no time :)

Just be yourself. Try to talk to a wide variety of people and see who you click with. Talk to people in your classes and compare schedules. Try to find common ground.
