I have a Kissing Gourami. Why does it keep floating near the surface? Its moving, it swims around a lil and then floats at the surface. Sometimes I can even see a small part of its body out of the water when it floats. I changed the water today cos it was too dirty, I didn't leave it over night but I added the de-chlorinater. Whats wrong?

If you have not been doing regular (weekly) partial (25-30%) water changes, then the build up of ammonia, nitrates and nitrites probably damaged his swim bladder.

If the shock of putting in 100% new fresh water doesn't kill him in a couple of days or so, you might consider humanely euthanizing him. He will eventually starve to death.

Humane euthanasia is done by anesthesizing him with oil of cloves and then freezing him in your freezer (in water of course).

It sound like your fish has swim bladder problem. that is caused from poor water conditioning. Go to about.com and then to the fish forum that is a great sit for any info in you fish that you might need.
