I dont think the shop will let you somhow,
Maybe if you took it back within 14 days but 5 MONTH`s is being a bit optermistic.

Try returning it and asking for a refund. If that fails go to trading standards or citizens advice.

Yes, take it back and tell them you got it as a gift. They will let you exchange it for another.
