Well, this is a problem we all deal with:

Cotton clothes shrinking down almost three sizes in the wash

I want to know if any awesome person out there knows a way to prevent this?

Is there a certain way to wash them (using a machine please, no one has time to do it by hand), or a certain detergent, etc?

Thanks

Cold water wash with detergent specific for cold water will generally reduce or eliminate shrinking of clothes.

Additionally when putting in the dryer, use permanent press rather than high heat, as that would also cause clothes to shrink. Line drying would be even better, but that's not always an option if living in apartment.

In the future, as much as possible buy clothes that are pre-shrunk.

Definatly use cold water and use the detergent that is specially made to wash clothes in cold water. And do not put in the dryer, that will for sure shrink them. Hang or flat dry.

Try washing in cold water - it is usually the heat that shrinks clothes, however if they are supppper dirty like you farm or work in the automotive field, make sure you get detergent that is specially formulated for cold water =)

Best of luck

Wash in cold water then line dry. You can put the item in the dryer on AIR dry for a few minutes (with a dryer sheet if you want)to get rid of any stiffness.

The dryer is what does most of the shrinking. Try hang drying those clothes.

Cold water and a cooler setting on dryer. But if the item is 100% cotton and it is not prewashed it will shrink some anyway.
