When I lost my key, I simply went to the desk, provided ID, they went and got my mail and charged me for a duplicate key. The locks on the boxes at my PO are tamper resistant and cannot be picked.

Go to the Post Office, tell them you lost the key, pay the lost key charges. These boxes are designed to not be tampered with.

Check with the post office. You will need some ID and perhaps proof of address.
