I remember the Dick Van Dyke show and many others from that time period. Although some of them were "corny" most were very entertaining without resulting to violence and sex. I think as networks have tried to gain new viewers they've taken the short cut of shocking viewers, going for cheap thrills. Even now the shows that tend to last, not all of them, are those that actually have interesting plots and dialogue. I don't know of any tv shows or movies that Dick Van Dyke was involved in that were not quality entertainment oriented.

Part of it does. TV was simple and altruistic back then. The only thing I don't like from that era [especially in the I Love Lucy series] is the stereotypical way women were treated.
Getting back to Dick Van Dyke, I love to watch Mary Poppins over and over!

The "Dick Van Dyke Show" was groundbreaking in many ways. It showed a married couple who actually exhibited some sexual desire for one another as well as romantic love.

Oh, what a cute and clever show that was! But I also love My Name is Earl and the 4400, and I love that different kinds of lives can be shown on TV now. Besides, you can readily find older shows like this on Nick at Nite or TV Land.
