I definitely think women are treated differently based on their appearance. About two years ago, i decided I was tired of being chubby my whole life and shed 45 pounds. I upgraded my whole look.....began to dress sexy yet professional and began pampering myself to facials, manicures and pedicures and salon only hair-styling (color, cut, etc). The response I have gotten from everyone is amazing.....people in the stores are nicer, men of all levels are nicer, co workers, bosses, etc. Even got a better paying job - sad but true.

Sorry, I'm a guy but, I just wanted you to know that being overweight, F.A.T, Thick, etc. is not the reason some are mistreated at work . If you are confident, look great, smart, and an excellent worker then the overweight issue is a non-factor. But, if you are late regularly, your work is bad, you make excuse because of your weight then, people will find a way to put you down and treat you badly. Maybe even get you fired. Just like being a minority and/or a woman (hell, don't be a black-overweight-female .......... you won't get anywhere in cooperate america) the reality is you have to be 10 times better at what you do than everyone else. Don't give a boss or supervisor a reason to get rid of you. Plus, many overweight people have sued companies for discrimination so, many organization have changed their ways because of that.

While being overweight can subject a person to some negative treatment in the workplace I do not think that a person who works in a firm that tolerates this type of behavior would find the work environment to be much different if they were not overweight. I think you will find that most people in the American workplace are treated badly regardless of their physical attributes, race, religion, ethnicity, creed, gender, sexual orientation, etc. It's just the way it is in most jobs. I am not stating that biases do not exist, I am simply stating that most employers do not focus on creating a culture that promotes a postiive working experience.

I think that being overweight can definitely affect the way a man or woman could be treated, even in a field that is not directly effected by weight. I think that some people judge overweight co-workers without even realizing they are doing it.
One of the worst stereotypes is that fat people are lazy. I know some fat people who are also very hard working. The only relationship between body weight and "laziness" is that a fat person might be too "lazy" to exercise. Some overweight people have 2 jobs, sick family members to take care of, etc.
However, there are some people who are both fat and lazy, just as there are thin people who are lazy. I just think it's sad that people are judged based on weight.

It actually depends on the person treating you. There are actually some people (believe it or not) that don't care what you look like and treat you like a normal person. Unless they're evil or attracted to you, they'd treat you differently. Whether they're mean or extra nice to you because you're pretty, don't let it affect your work because people's opinions are just.... well, opinions =).

Yes, it has an effect. People don't treat overweight people as well as fit people. I'm sorry it happens because I wouldn't mind letting myself go a little, instead of denying myself of all the delicious treats I'd rather have.

Yes, unfortunately people are treated differently because of their size. People who are overweight are viewed as unmotivated and over-indulgent by a lot of people. Sad but true.

Yes it does although you must accept people the way they are this is the real world and people not all though judge by what they see. So if you were fat you might get different treatment.

absolutely, depending on how much overweight, i've seen some really obese people treated very badly and with no respect, and i'm sure it wasn't because they deserved it.
