Hi I am a 16 year old girl and my hymen broke when I was having sex with my boyfriend (who is 18). I am going to get a check up soon and I am worried if my gynecologist is going to tell my mom. (She doesn't know that i am not a virgin.) Is the gynecologist supposed to keep this info. confidential? ...If my mom asks my gynecologist whether I have had sex or not, what will the gynecologist tell her? Oh and should i get check-ups every once and a while???
Please help me! Thanks.

Yes your gynecologist will keep it confidential. BUT are you on the pill? Did you use a condom? You DON"T want to get pregnant or get an STD, and there are LOADS of them out there. So TALK to your gynecologist and your mother. You will need her help and guidance. Good luck.

I'm a 23 year old, and I might be understand where your coming from more so then others, about not wanting your mom to find out. Important things to remember now that your having sex. 1. wear a condom at all times, including oral. 2. get birthcontrol by pill first until you are confortable with any other method. And still continue to wear a condom. STD's are running rapid and he is your boyfriend but you should do this for you best interest. 3. Tell you mom when your comfortable to tell her. 4. Your doctor shouldn't tell her if they hymen is broke. 5. You will need to start having a papsmear once every year. And those are the basic things you should know here's a website just incase you need more info. http://www.plannedparenthood.org/pp2/portal/

No, the doctor won't tell; yes, this information is confidential. And contrary to the very age-old myth, just because your hymen isn't intact, does not mean you are not a virgin. Injuries, tampons, and just plain old genetics can change a hymen.

I would probably be best to get on the pill when you see your gynecologist. And no, your doctor should be able to tell you mother that you are not a virgin or that you are on the pill.

Yes, your doctor should keep your medical information confidential, unless s/he has reason to suspect you are being abused. Professionals have a responsibility to report abuse, other than that, there shouldn't be an issue.

If your mother asks your doctor, your doctor will likely tell her to ASK YOU.

Once you become sexually active, you should get a check up every year.

I don't believe that the gyno will tell your mother but just a little motherly advise if you don't mind. If you are going to continue having relations with your boyfriend I wish you would consider talking with your mother about getting some birth control. I think in the long run she will appreciate you coming forward with this and also the fact that it will prevent you from coming home pregnant. I have two daughters and I appreciated the fact that they came to me with their decisions. I am not your mother but ask you to please think about it.

1) Your OB/GYN will notice that your hymen is ruptured. However, he won't know how it happened. Girls often rupture their hymens via sports, horseback riding, and masturbation.

2) You should have a check-up every year.

Your rights are protected under HIPPA, I don't believe your mother can just call up the dr. office and get the results...
