I have one friend that's always talking about suicide and tried to do it twice. The last time she was suicidal I kept talking to her. I told her I was going to contact someone in her family to watch her if she didn't stop talking like that. So I called her home, but she picked up. I talked her out of it. She lives in a different state, so it's difficult. But she's one of my best friends.

if a person tells you then they are reaching out for help. contact a family member, their doctor, crisis center or even the police if you have to. you can tell your friend that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I actually had this come up a few years back. My friend was living in another town and she was sending me e-mails telling me how she was planning to kill herself. I called the police in her town and they came to her house and took her to a hospital for mental evaluation. They were able to get her some counseling before it was too late.
She hated me for a while, but later, she came to see me -- thanking me for being a good enough friend to save her life.
Do what you can now to protect your friend! How will you feel if you do nothing and he or she dies? Get your friend some help while you still have time!

Suicide is permanent. No going back after that. Tell his family what he is thinking of doing.

Make it quick and painless, and make sure you do it right. No use ending up as a vegetable in the hospital for the rest of your life because you botched up your suicide attempt.

I wouldn't tell them anything...I would get a hold of a family member immediately and inform them what you think and why! You are gambling with this person's life. Get your butt moving. Why are you asking here?

if your going to do it..do it right. the fire dept. will make it rough on you and they will piss you off. emergency rooms do the same thing.
get real help because if you think your friend is having problems then she/he probably needs more than your advice or anyone's from this room. seek help from professionals. good luck.

I would dial 911 and tell them what's up, and hand him the phone and advise him to listen.
