The colonies don't exist anymore ever since the "Declaration of Independence" was signed back in 1776. However regarding the government and society, laws and rules do vary from state to state. Some of the laws are the same, but each state establish their own laws. Each process and legislation's vary from state to state also. If a person commits a crime, the punishment will vary depending on the state the crime was committed. I'm not sure if I answered your question or not.

North colonies were more desirable business and did not count number on slave as a lot because the South, who were Agricultural. Slaves also led to bigger social tensions; Southern slave vendors vacationing the North might want to be kept away from and beat through Anti-slavery supporters, and vice-versa sometimes. Geographically is obtrusive...North colonies resided in the North, and Southern colonies in the South, yet North had a tad more desirable mountains and South, a lot more desirable farmland.
