it depends on my financial situation... if i had a starving family, u better believe i would. if i was living fine, wife and kids, no way in this world would i give that up for material objects.

Most people who were suddenly given a million dollars would
probably shorten their lifespans by 5 years anyway...

Heck yes I would!
1) The only way I could reasonably see them attempting to shorten my lifespan is to mess with my body somehow, but no matter what they do to reprogram my longevity thermostat, I could still get hit by a bus tomorrow, and then where's all their fancy body-mucking?!
2) Shorter lifespan means I die younger, which means less chance of me doddering around needing help to pee and not remembering my husband's name. Totally down with this option!
3) The only reasonable way I can think of for them to mess with my body is to somehow immediately age it 5 years, and there's plenty of research to indicate that a good healthy lifestyle will undo most of those effects. Neener neener, did all your fancy science for nothing! Thpbpbpbbppbt!

It's not as crazy as it sounds. Anyone who gets "danger money" for their work, such as miners or soldiers, is effectively getting paid to shorten their life expectancy.
However, most people are unlikely to take your offer, because they prefer to take the risk of lower life expectancy than a guaranteed loss of years. That way, they can still believe that "it won't happen to me." And your price tag for 5 years of life seems too low. Try multiplying it by 10 and you might get some takers.

Depends on how long I had to live. If I had a guaranteed 90 years, I would take the money and knock it down to 85. I mean, we'll be eating apple sauce and wearing diapers by 90, so why not?

no... 1 million dollars isnt anything anymore. it goes so fast nowadays.
There really isnt any amount of $$ I would take to shorten my life.. Money doesnt make me happy, and shouldnt make anyone else happy, but does. Its how you live your life that should make us all happy.
