i have discovered one very good use for their larva.. the larva or wiggletails as some people call them are excelent food for tropical fish. i you have fish. set a few five gallons buckets of watter outside dump a can of beef broth in each.and when the larva grow up net them and dump themi n your aquarium. the fish will be happy and have a field day. a good mosquito repelent is adding a little oil of ciitronella to rubbing alcahol and sloshing it around the area
