I don't know where you live, but down here in "our neck of the woods" Animal Control WILL come get them. We've had them come out several times over the past few years to trap the little critters and relocate them. Those little guys are more than a nusance.....they can be dangerous. I can't believe your local authorities would expect YOU to trap and move them! Have you talked to Animal Control yourself, or is that info second-hand? I think I would make a "polite pest" of myself until they DO come out and do something.

Usually animal control will set live traps and remove them. If animal control has told you is not their job, then ask them who removes unwanted animals like raccoons, skunks, etc. There is an agency in every city - if you do not live in the city, contact the police agency responsible for your area and ask them who to call. Although very cute, raccoons are very mischievous and have been known to enter homes and help them selves to treats in the kitchens, including out of the frig.

Raccons are dangerous if they are provoked, or they perceive you as a threat. They also carry many diseases, including rabies. You need to call animal control, but surely have a shotgun on standby, just in case. If you don't have one, now would be a dandy time to pick one up. I was attacked by one as a kid, and it's not fun. Humane is not always best in some cases. Sniping a few raccons in your poolhouse is not going to endanger the species. If it does, just call me. We have enough in Georgia to share with the whole United States.

Call your local animal control/protection agency, they will refer/give you a number to call for a gov. agency that will remove wild life from your home humanly and relocate the family. Recocation is the main problem so they won't come back since they know where the cozzy spot is that has even a swimming hole.

Get a Havahart (brand) live trap. (Avail at Home Depot, many hardware stores) You can trap them (alive and unharmed), then just take them to a more appropriate spot (at least 5-10 miles away).
