Go into a word processing program like WordPad then type a test message then highlight all those words then make them BOLD red or green or blue then have them print out if you get something other then red green blue go into your printer driver and make sure the proper color scheme is selected if all thats right something with your printer is wrong or you got some silly virus on your machine I never heard of before playing tricks with you. Print a test page from your Printer Driver. Some printers have a maintenance mode you can start by pressing buttons in silly ways. You need to talk with your manufacturer to learn the special maintenance codes of printers that will test themselves. I have found that HP is improving the latest printer I have is 2575 All In One and with WINxp it is the first one ever worked right for me.

Simple you are out of magenta ink, or the print head has dried up.
Try a number of print head or nozzle cleanings to see if that frees it up first.
If you have no improvement on quality you may want to replace the cartridge. There are only a finite number of times you can actually refill. On the newer models of HP you will be luck to get 1 or 2 refills and still maintain a level of quality.

using refill kits are fine but since the sponge inside has some sort of exposure to the air the sponge within begins to dry up causing clogs, so the red ink may not be coming out due to a clog, best you can do is try cleaning the printers contacts or the cartriage head (the kit usually comes with a cleaning liquid), if not then your red sponge is clogged and will need a new one

Many things can be happening, hpefully no more tha one...
Calibrate your Printer first...
Check that the picture you are trying to print can be saved as
CMYK colours this is the best for printing.
Change the software you are printing in case it has for some reason some comfict... use photoshop as best.
If still you have a problem then the most probably this is a defective cartridge.
Hope to had helped you.
