they bury little remnants of themselves in your system registery.
if you really know what you are doing you can gewt rid of any mention of them with a good registery cleaner.
but be extremely careful messing with the registery and make duplicate backups.
if you delete the wrong thing you can easily render your computer completely inoperable.

There are information stored that is not removed when the software is uninstalled and checked before installation before its stored in the registry.

This is usually accomplished through registry keys that are not deleted when you delete the trial software.
