It depends how much your body individually needs, but the average is eight hours. Here's something that I was told: Go to sleep every night for three nights at exactly the same time, and after the third night the time that you wake up at is exactly the amount of sleep that you need.

Different people need different amounts of sleep, though 7-8 is the most commonly recommended. What does help is if you allow yourself segments of 1 1/2 hours, ie set your alarm after 7.5 or 9 hours rather than 8, as otherwise you will be waking in the middle of a deep slaap cycle and are likely to feel groggy.

Its dependent on the person penelope cruz sleeps something like 14 hours where as margaret thatcher had 4 with cat naps during the day. They say that people sleep less these days because it is never truly dark due to street lighting and we have lost 45mins plus to what we should be getting.

How ever much your body needs. It can vary from 6-9 hours. I need 9 hours and am 21. You need to go to sleep and let your body wake up on its own, then calculate how many that is. Once you figure out how much, try and get that much a night. Too little, and too much, sleep can make you sleepy all day.

I agree with Paul. You are young, go with the 8.5 hours every night. If you find that is too much you can go a little lower but preferably not below 7.5. Also if you miss the sleep, do not worry about it...you'll catch up laters. best of luck.

Everyone needs different amounts, but eight hours is about average.

The amount required depends on the number of daylight hours, so less in summer, more in winter.
