It is actually a very common sports injury it doesn't mean it is over for you in terms of sports if you play them but you probably will at least have to wear a brace when you play sports. Physical therapy is common after injuries like that it will be hard and hurt at first but you will probably have a knee in better shape than it has been before.

If you have physical therapy, you should be able to spring back from a tear. (Especially since you are young enough.) it might defer you from doing immediate activities that involve heavy usage of your knee, but working with a therapist, you should heal very close to 100% I tore my ACL, however it was a minor tear while playing rugby (6 years ago) and it bothers me only if I am running/walking far distances. (And it is very rare that it does hurt still.)

Yea you are screwed if you want to play sports at an extreme level. On the other hand, you are young enough to heal if you do your PT fully. You are also lucky, because normally it requires surgery....you sure you didn't just sprain your knee?

Yes, any ACL tear is bad. Physical therapy is going to be there to help you though. Don't fear or resist it.

Hope you are back on your feet soon! Good luck!
