There was a really good show about badgers on Animal Planet the other morning. I watched like 2 minutes of it, but you would have loved it.

It was talking about them resting. They will just go into any black tight space that they can fit. They are not mean, they just don't like being messed with. They are very solitary. They only go to other badgers to mate, never to have any social interaction. Mating for a badger is strictly business, they are done in less than 5 minutes. There is no quarting.

I'm assuming you mean the American Badger? As opposed to the Eurasian Badger of the UK and Europe, etc.?

Try the sites below, where you will find tidbits like this:

"The reproduction in this species is quite interesting. Although mating occurs in early autumn, embryos are arrested early in development. Embryos are held in a sort of suspended animation until December to February, when they implant into the uterine wall and resume their development. Thus, although a female is technically pregnant for 7 months, the embryos develop for a mere 6 weeks. Litters of 1 to 5 offspring are born in early spring. Females are able to mate when they are 4 months old, but males do not mate until the autumn of their second year."

Try searching any engine on "Taxidea taxus", which is the scientific name for the American Badger and you'll find plenty of sites to look at for neat information. As to the Eurasian Badger, search "meles meles" for that if you want.

Good luck and happy hunting!
