They both had their moments, but, I think the original one is, by far, the best one. It is a classic! The way Gene Wilder looked at those children, as if he wanted to kill them himself, is just priceless.
I like the one with Johnny Depp; I like the scene where he is outside, clapping at those plastic children catching on fire during a musical number. But, there are far so many more things of the original movie that out weighs the latter one.
So, I like both, prefer the original, though.

I'd go with 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory' that's was an actual fun movie...'Charlie & The Chocolate Factory' was a really lame movie...That's my opinion anyway.

I really like Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. It tells a the story of Willy Wonka how he got to be where he is, where the umpa lumpas came from, it is very child friendly.

I grew up with Willy Wonka & the chocolate factory and I loved Gene Wilder as Wonka. but for today's kids, the older movie, they may not get it. I mean the boat ride when Wonka goes into a trance and you see visions of chickens getting their heads chopped of and other flash images. back then it was more of a psychodelic experience.

They're both really good, but I like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory better.

But I do like how Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory follows the book more closely.

I haven't seen Willy Wonka yet but the old school Charlie & the Chocolate Factory is awesome. How could you not love that golden ticket smile?

Willy Wonka was a better movie, but Johnny Depp's version was a lot truer to the book. Reminded me what a freak Roald Dahl was. But hey, if I was Willy Wonka in the new film, I'd have problems too if my dad was Count Dooku the Dentist.

i didn't get a chance to see charlie and the chocolate factory, but i love willie wonka and the chocolate factory...i'd probably still choose it if i had seen the johnny depp one... i like johnny depp, but the original is a classic that i grew up on and was a little lighter. i loved gene wilder in the role of willie wonka!!

"Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" is far better than the remake. Gene Wilder does Willy Wonka so well, and I love the song "The CandyMan Can".
