I know that everybody in this world wants to do something good. But do you think donating money can serve the purpose.

I am confused about it. It may be due to imbalance in the system that, let people get extra money which they do not even care. And at the other hand the people who need it, they do not get opportunity to earn it.

First off there is no imbalance in the system. If you took all the money in the world and devided it out to every man woman and child, it would in short order be exactly distributed as it is today. The rich would be rich again and the poor would be poor again.

The reason most folks donate is because they feel gratitude. Usually those who donate the most are also those who are the most gratefull for what they have. It is human nature when one is gratefull for what one has that one wants to share it with some one else. In my religion it is taught that man was created in the image of God. We believe that image included some Godly traits like a desire to reach out and help those around us. America is the richest land on earth. America donates more than most other countries combined. You would think that with all the anti american sentiment in the world today that Americans would close the gates and keep it all to them selves. But no, inspite of all those who bit the hand that feeds them America still donates more than most. Call it what you want, I say its because God built me this way. I am gratefull for what I have, and thats why I want to share it with others.

there are many reasons people donate money to different causes. Yes for some it is a tax advantage to some degree. For many it is because they have the belief that if they help others then life will be better for us all. Some donate out of guilt feeling if they do not then bad luck will befall them. The most money given to a cause is by people that have been able to do well and feel they do need to share their good luck with others. Many give to the universities they attended, Many give to medical research because a loved one died of some ailment that has no cure at this time, there are many other reasons but it comes down to the fact that many people feel they should help others. It is not only the wealthy that give to others. Many of the middle income and below also give even if it is a small amound. Just think that if a million people only gave one hundred dollars each then there would be one hundred million to help in research or relief in disasters or what ever it is needed for. A little from all can amount to a lot for helping.

people do it for a variety of reasons. Some because the money is needed to fund worthwhile projects and it's the right thing to do. Others do it because it gets them some positive PR. Yet others do it to reduce their tax bracket.

There really is no imbalance in the system though. For the entire history of mankind, some people have benefited more or less than others, that is called freedom. Only in a repressive society does no one prosper more than some one else and even in those societies there are always some who benefit more(usually the ones who run the society).

With increased success and prosperity comes an inherent equal increase in responsibility. Some people measure up to the responsibility and help others. Some people turn away from it and help no one but themselves. Such is the human race.

people donate money because its an easy way to feel like you are helping the needy out, without actually doing anything.

its also tax deductable, so some people can net a larger portion of thier income by donating to charity.

its a win-win for the needy and the rich.

For billions of reasons!

There are those who have tax deductions in mind. Others use it for their PR or as a downright commercial. Some give out of their heart, symbolized by their wallets. But what they all have in common, even the multitude I didn't mention, is that people donate because they can. It's probably that moment that we realize that we are all living creatures who deserve to live as best possible. (People don't only give to other people, but to animals, forests, cultural heritage etc.)

Some people do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Some people do it so that the community will like their business better. Some do it for the good PR/Advertising. Some do it for the tax deduction-- it could be enough to lower them to a different tax bracket and then there is a good savings.

A type of Charity. They also donate blood, kidney, eye, etc. You find anything wrong with all that? All these, result out of imbalances of a sort, as you rightly say, but these charitable actions, if I might say so, act as great balances in Society.

Ted Turner donated 1 billion dollars to United Nations.
Now, the first question truthfully is why and the answer is so simple...think about if for awhile.

I think its innate within every human being that they want to feel good about themselves. When one gives money to someone they feel needs their help it makes them feel good about themselves. Today people are so tied up with work and family and don't have time for anything else, so donating money is an easy means to boost ones self good!

Well a donation can be a huge tax write off, and donations also make people feel good about themselves. My father died of cancer, I donate to the American cancer society so that they can hopefully find a cure someday.
