"Worse than what?" Nations / peoples fight wars for all kinds of reasons, both necessary and merely convenient. The only ethically justifiable wars, in Acquinus' old logic (and the Koran, even), are those in defense against aggression/conquest. The premise is that loss of life may be preferrable to slavery or loss of 'peaceful way of life' ... conquest as a 'fate worse than death', so to speak.

So, on this basis, some 'good wars' might include WWII and (less clearly) WWI.

But, if you ask an honest economist or technologist, they could answer that many wars are good for economies. WWII is a good example, serving to both end the Depression and spark rapid industrial leap in all major participants.

As far as I can guess ... certain interests in Switzerland etc. were the chief parties to mostly both avoid the damages AND reap the benefits of that War.

I never seen one, per se, but World War II is an example of a necessary military action. Even though it kicked off the Cold War, an unchecked Third Reich would have been far worse.

I can't think of any other that happened in this last past century.
