I think it will be down to her and McCain. It's a tough call to pick a winner, as his gender might very well cancel out the negative of his being Republican among conservative Democrats who may balk at electing a woman, and moderate Republicans who might vote Democrat in this election, but won't vote female under any circumstances.

If I'm right about who the candidates will be, then I think her greatest asset, aside from her own abilities, may be her husband. If she's willing to utilize his skills, I think she'll have the edge. If she shies away from using him to stump for her because she wants to play down his influence, then I think it's a toss-up between her and McCain.

There is another variable that may have great impact on her candidacy. People will eventually start to think about what a tremendous impact Bill could have as a goodwill ambassador abroad. That is historically a role played by the First Spouse. He was very well liked by world leaders during his presidency (they never cared less about the Monica, and thought Americans were nuts for making such a big deal about it), and is a politician and diplomat extraordinaire. He could make great strides toward healing the breach between the US and the rest of the world. Conversely, the same considerations could work against Hillary's candidacy, since many will choke on the idea that the two of them might possibly repair much damage caused by 8 years of Republican control.

Of course, it's all conjecture at this point, she hasn't announced her candidacy.

Hillary clinton will not win the nomination because most sensible democrats see that she is unelectable and too vulnerable from attacks. John Edwards will get the nomination instead. Hillary clinton will not accept a VP nomination, so the vp will be someone else, hopefully Barak Obama

PS: Hillary clinton is no liberal, she is very conservative. She votes with the republicans a lot and she still thinks the war was a good idea, and she supports Israel bombing the hell out of everyone.

I think she's an intelligent, reasonable, honorable person.

That alone makes it damn near impossible for her to become President in the current environment of Machiavellian politics.

Our country has been divided more deeply now than we were in the 1860's. The presidency will continue to go to the candidate who can better slander and demonize the other person. We will continue to get "leaders" like Bush, Cheney, and Rove until that changes.

We also have to look at comparable nations.

Britain's first female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, was a conservative.

Hillary just doesn't do it for the young women. We're mostly post-feminist and she's in the Gloria Steinem crowd.

She's out of touch in many ways.

Better than a Republican, but still out of touch.

no way will Hillary be president simply because most women will not vote her in as the 1st woman president because they think she will set a terrible precedent for subsequent women, lending validity to the idea of womens inferiority in government positions.

The first woman who will get elected president will have to be untouchable, Hillary is not untouchable.

There are none and she has too much baggage from when Slick Willie was Governor of Arkansas and when he was president for her to become president. She will not
make it as president.

I do not think she will be President. She is too liberal. If she were a moderate, then she would have a shot. I think the first woman President would have to be a moderate.
