Best certification of a mechanic to make it more trust worthy.
I heard that with this if you get ripped off you can call AAA and they could loose their certification? and it is faster than calling consumer affairs.

Is it a mechanic that ripped you off or a shop? Get's tricky without all of the details.

-Always insist on the old parts
-Always insist you not be changed for any parts added that didn't fix the problem
-Get it in writting!

"Certification" tends to give people a false sense of security. Certification simply means that the mechanic has met certain criteria or taken training to meet the criteria of a given certification authority, like ASE or AAA. That doesn't necessarily mean that he is the best at what he does, nor does it necessarily mean than someone who's not certified can't do the work just as well. It just means that the mechanic SHOULD know how to adequartely fix a problem in his/her area of expertise.

The idea is that the certified mechanic, with his supposedly better skills, will have a better chance of correcting the problem and getting it right the first time...not always true, but the odds are better. The one drawback is that shops with certified mechanics tend to charge more for labor, but a lot of people consider it a worthy expense to have the problem fixed correctly.

Hope this helped.

Trust? On a scale of 1-10 arround 8. I just like to think that if they screw somthing up you can take it back and have it done again.
