IF you are having a hysterectomy, I assume your through having children and are now having complication with your Uterus that brings only one solution in the long run and that is to cut it out. You will have to take hormones when you have that done. You also will feel much better too!
You will be sore for several day...no sex and all that garbage.
The reason I know, my sister had it done:)

The pain is not bad at all. During the operation, you will be fully a sleep and will not know a thing. Once the procedure is done, you won't feel a thing. The operation time usually take about 30 minutes to about 60 minutes depending an the doctor and how the equipment is doing. Usually it is a come and go surgery which means that a patient will come in the morning and leaves in the afternoon. The pain will just be like someone is pinching you all the time.
Depending on the age of a person and how sexually active the person and the reason why a hysterrectomy is needed, it is good if they overies and always infected. It is also good if the girls is sexually active and does have sexual intercourse with more than one guy in a short period of time. But remember, after the procedure, the women willl never have a chance to give birth.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy in May and no it isn't that bad. I also had to have my bladder tacked up and some wall reconstruction work. I was in the hospital for three days and the worst part was the medication that was given for pain. It made me sick to my stomach. The doctors left my ovaries in because they said I have a good 10 years left of hormones. I am 42 years old.
I would recommend a vaginal hysterectomy to anyone. Its not that bad.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone !
Put it off until you've read, "The Hysterectomy Hoax", available in bookstores, libraries, and Amazon.com.
What they do is cut the nerves associated with women's orgasms and they are not the same as they were pre-hysterectomy.
You will also be forced into early menopause which totally sucks, b/c your hormones change and you will also lose your sex drive for who knows how long. And the pain afterwards is worse than childbirth in my opinion, (that's childbirth WITHOUT drugs)
Doctors do NOT tell you the truth about hysterectomies. There are so many more options for any problem that you might be having that is leading you to make this decision.
Please read this book first. It will tell you all about what happens and how your life changes.
If I had it to do over again, I absolutely wouldn't. For ANY reason.

I do not have clear what you will have. An hysterectomy through the vagina?...An hysterectomy by itself is something terrible, but if it is to save your life, to take out a cancer, it has to be performed. Ask your doctor exactly what is the operation he will make in your body, my friend. Do not expect an expertise answer...oooops!..sorry...may be some users are doctors with lots of time to answer medical questions. That would be cool!!!..:))))

My mom had ovarain cysts about 10 yrs ago and had a hysterectomy. The physical pain wasn't as bad as her emotions. She was depressed because it was a difficult thing realizing she'd never have more children (even though she didn't want more). She was on medication for menopause. She got through it though and said that not having her period is awesome.

I've read that this procedure, while leaving no external scaring, can leave you at increased risk for infections post-op, as well as far-reaching consequences for scar tissue inside the vaginal canal.
May I recommend investigating the laparascopic technique? I've heard a lot of good things about it, and it would seem that if you qualify for the vaginal type, you should be able to be treated laparoscopically. Its worth checking out.....
