Does it work? - no, it's about not working!!!!! - about not doing, it's about letting go. It will teach you to be aware of how much extra use you put your body through, and find less harmful and more efficient ways to use your body. This is particularly useful to people who have muscular pains or bad posture, but people who are perfectly OK will benefit tremendously from a series of lessons.

It is normally recommended that you start with a series of 10 lessons - this will give you the knowledge and experience to work alone and go for 'top-up' lessons later.

It may seem expensive, but truly, what you learn, even more so, how you learn to un-learn, is worth its weight in gold.

If I could I would recommend that EVERYBODY has a course of lessons, I'd put it on the National Curriculum. When the body is functioning as it should, all other things come into balance - mind,spirit,emotions.

The Alexander Technique teaches how to recognize and overcome habituated limitations within a person's manner of movement and thinking. The first and most common limitation addressed is unnecessary muscular tension.

The Alexander Technique is usually learned from an Alexander Technique teacher in one-on-one sessions by an Alexander student, using specialized hand contact and verbal instructions. Alexander Technique is also taught in groups, often using short individual lessons in turn as examples to the rest of the class.

The name denotes both the educational methods taught by Alexander teachers and the individual method practiced by teachers and students of the technique. It takes its name from F. Matthias Alexander (1869–1955), a former Shakespearean recitalist, who first observed and formulated its principles between 1890 and 1900.

Many people who have lower back pain report decrease in symptoms after starting Alexander Technique. Alexander Technique teaches a person how they should stand, walk and lift correctly. Alexander Technique and Pilates are two very popular methods recommended by Rehab. doctors to help with back pain, not just lower back pain. However, it should be part of a greater regiment. Physical therapy and muscle strengthening exercises are highly recommended.
