I have a business idea, and a plan (mentally) I'm only 20 years old, but would love to get the ball rolling...where do i start with setting up my own business?

The idea is to start up a gig venue with basement over 18s venue, then have a cafe style upstairs with recording booths and different equipment, a safe environment for local talent to put togehter bands, practice, record, mix, perform..in a safe environment for free ( charity run) or cheap ( charity embersed.)

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to Really Start Your Own Business, Fourth Edition by David E. Gumpert
* How to Really Create a Successful Business Plan: Step-by-Step Guide by David E. Gumpert
* What No One Ever Tells You about Starting Your Own Business: Real-Life Start-Up Advice from 101 Successful Entrepreneurs (What No One Ever Tells You About Starting Your Own Business) by Jan Norman
* Business Start-Up Kit by Steven D. Strauss
* Start Your Own Business (Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Up) by Rieva Lesonsky

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

This is just my idea but I feel you should start small. As you may or may not now, e-commerce is perhaps the strongest in market potential these days. The convenience factor is powerful. Maybe you should start small...get your business online first. This way you can avoid some costly expenses (like rent/lease or operating expenses) and be able to slowly open your products to the world, thus being able to eventually start establishing a profit BEFORE having to deal with many major expenses. Do those when you are ready. Something you may want to look in to: http://www.mittenstate.ws

Go there, enter in your information so you can see the video, and it explains it all from there. I can walk you through the process step by step if needed just to make sure you are successful. (Please keep in mind; this is NOT a get rich quick scheme.) In my opinion, the best thing about this is that it doesn’t require a high startup investment. (Considering you can start for free). I definitely recommend test driving it. Again, this is a huge opportunity for you to begin your business slowly. The last thing you want to do is rush things. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Hope This Helps and Good Luck!

Get the plan onto paper. Look at it and study it thoroughly. Adjust it. Work out costs associated, planned revenue, gross profit etc.

Do you need financial help? If so go to the bank. Do you need to rent premises- if so check out prices. Have you got suppliers, do you need a website designer? Just reasearch , reasearch, research. I can't give too much info because I don't know what type of business you've got.

As soon as you earn anything, you'll need to register with the Inland Revenue. Call Business Link (find them on a search engine). They're free and give you advice. Alternatively, send me an email and I'll give you some pointers if you need any help.

Before going to a bank or an investor you'll need a business plan with historical data supporting the feasibility of your idea. Try the business dept. at a local college for information on getting help on how to proceed. They may be able to put you in contact with business leaders in your area that will mentor you.
