I sometimes get whistled at and it pisses me off. It's like "Leave me alone ok!" Usually the guys that whistle at girls are ugly though and they just want to feel attractive. Now I find I just ignore them and pretend I don't hear them. Guys...whistling or saying innapropriate comments will not get you a girl because we don't like it.

I think they just want the woman to know that they've noticed her and they appreciate how good she looks! It may not be the best way to go about it, but it would be quite rare for a guy to walk up to a woman and say, "I noticed you, and I appreciate how good you look - I just wanted to tell you that" and walk away. THAT would be pretty creepy. My opinion is, if you are a woman getting whistled at, take the compliment and just keep walking. You need not reply or acknowledge the guy in any way. And feel free to whistle at a hot guy once in awhile!!

I do not think builders do it to be obnoxious...they're just having a laugh with their work mates. I guess it just breaks up the day and makes it more fun! If I was a builder I would probably whistle at men walking past for a laugh!
And believe it or not some women find it flattering!

This is an old custom which was spread widely by Hollywood
old timers. I think the fashion is on the decrease, and like you,
I hope the whistling will stop altogether soon.

You seem to have some civic sense, many guys don't give it a damn (!) and, besides, they also derive what is called "sadistic pleasure," out of such gestures...We are the world!

guys do it to "signal" to the girl that she's hot. But when girls hear it, they usually think the guy is tacky. Whistling wont get you a girl. It creeps them out .

It's not hot, it's actually offensive. Don't do it, keep being sweet- TALK to a girl you think is attractive, do not whistle. We are not animals.
