first there's the product --> milk, soap, etc. and theres the brand --> snickers, coca cola, pepsi, etc. sometimes marketers chose only one of these routes (product or brand) when advertising. when marketers/advertisers chose to only highlight the product in a campaign it usually only consists of the product demo and everything else about the product (ingredient, packaging, etc.). but when they decide to do a branding campaign they will probably use a more emotional approach so the target market will feel like they can relate to the brand (as a result to the product as well) more. that's why branding is considered to be more appropriate for the long term. because what marketers/producers really want is for the consumers to be loyal to the brand. that way they won't switch too easily when a new competitor comes to the market.
