We're doing a bang up job of it so far. War is apparently what the conservatives want now, especially the neoconservatives, and they are the ones in power. All stick, no carrot.

Not with the current policies Bush & Co. are using. He has alinated what were our alies and has not reached out in peace and friendship and understanding to others. Do you feel more peaceful as a country now than you did before Bush? Of course not. 9/11 was tragic but it did not have to lead to the chaos and termoil the world is in today. The greatest day to look forward to for the world will be the day Bush leaves office and a Democrat moves in. At least the Demos only screw the interns--not the country and the world!

Like sobriety, you cannot bring peace to people who do not want it. We can force peace on people by warring against them and destroying them, like in WW2, but short of that, there is nothing that will bring peace to Iran, North Korea, extremist Muslims, etc.

This is why there has not been any peace between Israel and the Palestinians - the Palestinians have never sought peace that doesn't include the destruction of Israel and the elimination of the Jews.

While the neocons are in power, I'd give it about the same odds as a one-legged midget becoming a major league basketball star. Unless global warming and nuclear war wipe out the entire human population.

Despite all the rhetorical and propaganda the U.S. is one of the greatest obstacles to peace in the world. Right-wing Americans are the only ones who seem unaware of this.

No, and there never will be peace in the world, unfortunately.
And it has to do with humans. There are too many volatile people out there who consider "their way the only way" and add to that ignorance and distrust...

No, but it can do its part, if it would just quit bringing war to the world, including the war on drugs that is responsible for endless violence and is destroying the rule of law not only in the US, but everywhere drug crops can grow.
