If you don't have a signed agreement, it's not going to happen. Swallow your medicine and be wiser in the future.

If you do have an agreement that's signed, go to small claims court. They will help you.

Nothing at the police station, either small claims court (here in NY that's anything under $5000) or civil court, depending on the amount and your state laws for small claims.

Call the clerk of court where you live and ask her what the monetary amount maximum is for small claims. You can claim the interest if you had it in writing that the loan included interest. You do have it in writing, right??? Because without a signed agreement, it's your word against theirs and you probably won't win in court.

Even if you get a judgement, you still have to pursue payment of it. There are 1000's of people holding small claim judgements who will never see a dime, it costs more to pursue them then it does to eat the money amount. Sorry to be so discouraging, but reality should be recognized. Remember the movie Liar, Liar with Jim Carrey, when he tells the car attendent who damaged his car, "I could just take you to small claims, waste an hour of my life, and get a judgement I'll never collect... or just bend over and take it like a man??" Sadly, that's true.

Take them to small claims court, up to $5000. It doesn't matter that they are a cop or the whole department.

It is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. you can them to small claims court (for up to a certain amount, I think 15k now).

Sue them in every name they have, including business, etc. If you win the case, you can lean their vehicle, home, etc.
