I think you are seeing only one side of the fact. You are asking this question keeping in mind the particle nature of light(Quantum theory or the photon particle theory).Please keep in mind that light has dual nature both particle and wave nature.Apply the correct form of light where ever nessesary. Dual nature of light was formed since the particle nature theory was not able explain the refractive properties.

light rays do not disrupt the structure of anything as it passes through it ,that is, it does not break the glass......it just passes through it.some substances like glass allow light rays to pass through them.these are termed "transparent substances".some substances allow only a part of the light rays to pass through them and are termed as"translucent".some substances , like brick, do not allow any light to pass through them and are termed as"opaque".got it?
