Call your OB/GYN and ask them. Each one may have a different policy. Or, call your dermatologist and ask if they would consider prescribing BC to a 13 year old. I think that a visit to the dermatologist (not a general practice doctor, not a pediatrician) would be your safest bet. This way you can discuss all the options available to you.
If she does decide to get BC and she does need a pelvic exam, talk to her about it. Ask if she wants you in the room. At that age, I would *NOT* have wanted my mom in the room with me. Let her know that the doctor and a female nurse will be in the room with her, so she is safe. Ask her is a female OB/GYN would make her more comfortable.
Good luck to you! : )

I would think if you took her to a gyn to get the pills then they would make her get an exam. If you took her to a regular family doctor and explained your concerns they might just write the perscription for you. And I saw another person who answered your question asked about tetracycline, I used it when I was younger, probally about 12 years ago, and it wasn't all that effective for me, plus it is a low strength antibiotic, and while I don't know, they may not be as keen on handing them out now with all the scare on antibiotics becoming less effective due to over use. I also used a cream that was in a small tub that had to be kept in the fridge, can't remember what it was called now (big help, I know) but if your not sure about the birth control then you could ask about perscription topical treatments. But if you do go with the birth control, it should also make her periods alot easier on her.

i don't think you can get it without an exam unless planned parenthood does it that way. Have you tried Benzoyl peroxide gel? It's over the counter and if applied daily can really help with acne problems. also, a dermatologist may be able to help with something better such as low dose antibiotics which will be just as effective and a lot less traumatic than birth control pills. also... if you put your teen daughter on birth control, i don't care how nice she is it makes it easier to give into sex.

Some young girls start having babies at 13 or younger...no, it won't be that traumatic for her especially if you don't make an issue of it.
Besides, since the pills are made for birth control and you want to use them for one of the side effects, she does need to be checked to make sure her female organs look fine and there are no cancer issues (pap smear) etc since the pill is known to cause problems for some women.
I was put on tetracycline (sp?) for acne when I was a kid, but not sure that's still used as I'm 41 now.

Have you spoke to your daughter about this. She is a young woman will hormonal issues about to start birth control does not always help as there are different types of acne.
Personally I think this is a decision to be made by both of you,as her teenage years will produce hormonal up and downs.
Maybe consult a Dr or skin specialist. A change in her eating habits other avenue to explore.
13 is young but old enough for consultation between you both before taking what seems like very drastic measures.
I wish you both well.

I would try proactive first.
B/c she is so young she is probably going to have to go thru the exam. No doctor is going to just prescribe a pill to someone without examining them. There are too many malpratice lawsuits out there.
Thank those money hungry sue happy people!
But seriously you should take her to the dr soon if she has started her period that way you can get her in the habit of yearly check ups. They are so important for her health in the long run.

I think if you are putting a 13 year old on birth control, she needs to see a doctor first. They will probably understand her age, in an exam & may have a better solution that won't take that.

I don't think it would be traumatic for her. This is something that she needs to get use to getting done every year anyways. So she might as well start getting use to it now. Just make sure she understands everything and if she has any questions, answer them truthfully.
Doctor's are use to dealing with this as well. They will walk her through it all and explain what they are doing and why as they go along.

try taking her to a dermatologist about accutane if you're worried about birth control. it works really well if antibiotics havent worked. it's a five month program and it's kind of a hassel because it causes severe birth defects so there's a lot of precautions taken, but usually after the program acne shouldnt be a problem for her anymore.

She would have to do the whole gynecological exam to make sure the birth control will be safe for her to take.
