I think Maplin have some in their sale also try Aria. Maplin do vouchers for money off if you register and free P&P over £35.
I just check my copy of Maplin sale seagate HDD is £99.99 for a 300 Gb drive and I have a voucher for £7 off that - so that's £92.99 for a drive that was £169.99 not long ago. The 500 Gb western Digital external is £189.99 . They are both good names and again you could probably get £7 off the Western Digital drive too. If you use Mutual points - I think you can get points for shopping at Maplin too. Have over 5000 points - they mount up! lol

I prefer to buy my hard drive and then find an external case to put it in, that way I know exactly what I'm getting. If you're not handy with a screwdriver then maybe best not to do it this way :-)
Places like Currys have computer gear, whether they're cheap or not is another matter.

Keep your eye on Ebay but keep an eye on those poor feedbacks on some of the companies.
Staples seem to have decent equipment at not a lot of dosh.
Best still, if your in in the UK, check the link below because they monitor who is giving offers/good deals especially on PC equipment but many others too.

choose for between the vast call manufacturers; Seagate, Maxtor or Western digital. What length are you searching for? 3.5" drives require a separate mains ability source, while 2.5" will draw ability from the computing device. additionally determine you get achronic with the suited interface to your computing device: USB, Firewire or the two.
