The KKK was a racist religious group that comprised 20% of the white male population in the United States during the 1920's. They murdered, cheated, lied, manipulated, and terrorized those who were different religions or races. This included lynchings, beatings, rape, torture, bombings, political manipulation, and more. in some cases, entire communities were dedicated to the KKK's cause.
One of the foundational tenets of the KKK was that they were Christian and they were doing the will of God by ensuring that non-Christians and non-whites were minimized and/or eliminated.
Why do some people categorize all Muslims as a threat because of a few, yet in the 1920's and later, people didn'd categorize all Christians as a threat because of the massive KKK organization?
If anyone can clearly rationalize this I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll have to believe the response is due to fearmongering and is hypocritcal.

Well, look at it from black people's perspective in the 20s. Wouldn't most think that white people were out to get them judging from organizations like the KKK? They were attacked and violated by such people so there was hatred and revendication from black people against whites though the Black panthers and such right?
Same case. We are constantly attacked and not by "a few" like you seem to suggest , by fanatical muslims so don't blame us if we feel a little bit uneasy when we watch TV and we see hordes of people burning down the american flag and saying " Death to Americans" ok?

I think because islam has very strong views and when a religion has very strong view then one has to follow it to be pious or quite it ......like you cannot marry a non muslim even if you love them that means one of the person has to forgo his or her beliefs, if a religion doesnt even spare love then I really dont think that it can do better when it comes to life .....I know a lot of muslims and I hate to sound a racist but I think islam is the most controlling religion like it makes its followers a zombie , stops them from thinkin and living life and writes them a few rules like the bottom line and when some really stick to it ....they end up being extremist , you might say that it doesnt reflect the population ,but its your opinion I guess you might get hurt but I must admit that although I am an MBA , who has read a lot of religious books , I am least convinced by ISLAM and its STONE COLD RULES , thats why I prefer brahmakumaris , buddhism , or even jainism and all the other peacefull religions as they are peacefull and understanding

Because the Klan was made up of people from among the local population. The people of that time knew about themselves, and knew to look a little deeper that for just surface qualities before judging.
Muslims tend to be from other parts of the world. They tend to look different, act different, eat different foods, speak different languages. These qualities stand out quickly. So if a terrorist happens to be an iraqi moslem, then it's easy to think, "Hmm. Maybe this iraqi moslem is also thinking about blowing up an airplane, too!". That's basic human nature.

I don't believe Muslims are a threat. I believe over-the-edge radicals are a threat! KKK is in that category. Some people, such as KKK members, think of ANYBODY different from themselves as a threat. I think it's time for ALL the over-the-edge radicals to disappear, it doesn't matter what group they align themselves with!

well, although it is easier to generalize than to actually think and be rational, I think it is also important to remember that people often fear anything different from them as well.
Those ignorant KKK boys were local, the Muslim population is by and large not.
I sense a lot of good ole boy mentality in this blind hatred...

Some people listen to main stream media as if it were the word of G.D. They are misled into believing through fear tactics that Muslims and all Arabs are evil. I am speaking of the ignorant and people who just do not know better. The majority of people I know and associate with have the advantage of knowledge that prevents them from thinking that way. It is that simple, they are told to fear them, so they do. Like sheep they are led to believe this lie.

Because they're wrong. It's just the very few who believe it's their duty to kill the non-muslims. Their clerics are telling them that. When more peaceful Muslims come out and say, "This is wrong" in the public... then there will be less generalization.

Because it's less effort to generalize.
If they can make broad sweeping statements, then they don't have to spend any mental energy actually thinking about the issue, and don't have to take any time making distinctions or noting differences.
That's how racism, bigotry and prejudice survive. It's easier for most people to just latch hold of an idea, keep the idea as simple (thus as broad) as possible, and never bother to re-examine it.
That is why I consider prejudice and bigotry a mental defect. It is am impairment of the brain's normal ability to process information.
{EDIT to rustyshackle} Actually, Christianity does teach that.
As most sects interpret the Bible, it teaches to kill anyone who practices any form of energy work ("magic"), which means several religions go on the chopping block right there. It also teaches to kill those who do not worship YHWH, or who work on Sunday, or many other groups of people who "live in sin" (non-Christians). And don't forget the Crusades or the Inquisition.
Most Christians just don't follow those teachings anymore, though they did in the past. Just as most Moslems (99+%) don't believe in killing infidels just for having a different religion.

Because Christianity and Judaism don't teach that you should kill the infidel. Islam, on the other hand, teaches that you should first attempt to convert the non-believer. If that doesn't work, you should kill him.
So, the "few" Muslims who act crazy are actually doing what their religion teaches.
