If the draft was reinstated in the U.S.A., and you got your draft notice in the mail, what do you suppose you would do?

TrueSoul: the problem, of course, is that what you think of as a "just war" may not be someone else's idea of a "just war." And when you get drafted, no asks you how you feel about what you're going to do. Your opionion, alas, does not count one tiny bit.

You should specify for what kind of war. A just war or the same crap we are living through right now? Because if it is for this crap, I would let them know, I already did the most sensible thing anyone in my position would do, move out of the USA and return when we have a Pres. with half a brain, half a heart and a Congress with some balls...

I would have very negative thoughts about the competence of the Department of Defense if they thought a fifty year old man would be of much use to them.

On the other hand, under similar circumstances some 30-some years ago, I received a similar notice and duly reported, in fact joined the reserve OTC program in (vain) hope of becoming an officer and a gentleman.

This war is the most counter-productive, idiotic, self-destructive venture since Napoleon invaded Russia, but given my lack of legitimate concientious objection to ALL wars, I will continue to rely on the political process rather than draft resistance to change our policies. Those morally opposed to ALL war may, I think, legitimately choose other avenues.

Grow my hair long, put on a robe, grab a guitar, buy a volkswagen bus, head to Berkley California, protest the war, smoke some pot, do some LSD, and spit on returning soldiers and call them baby killers! NOT NOT NOT! But that's what would happen to all you losers who run to Canada with your tail between your legs! Grow some balls the Military is not just to get money for college you have to fight when called upon! I paid my dues in the Military already so if I had another chance to protect this Great Nation I would do it! Remember freedom has a different taste for those who fight for it!

Make up some excuse. I might get that excuse today, perhaps. I'm not dying to give the barbaric Iraqis freedom. To hell with them and Bush. If it was stopping Iran, though, I might reconsider my opinion

First and foremost, there will never be a return to th draft in the USA, unless there is a WWIII. It is a process that the Army abhors, politicians abhor, and citizens abhor.

i would do as i was supposed to do and go report.
my son would too. it is our duty to help defend the country even if I do not agree with the presidents policy or reasons we are in a war.
our ancestors fought for hundreds of years to give us the freedoms we have here.
why do you think so many people from other country's want to be here?
many other countries do not have the freedom of expression to participate in a forum such as this. we are supposed to help defend those freedoms.

Hehe, good luck. Anyway, there should be an included letter telling you what the next step is.

go i guess because i was ordered to go, but it would make me really sad to leave my family behind.

I would try to stay home with my children and husband, but if one parent had to go (and if it were a choice) i would rather it be me than my husband.

thoughts of the draft make me sad.....a real draft would break my heart
