many congrats on the pregnancy....
many hospitals will only u allow u to go 10 to 12 days over ur due date.
this is because the placenta will then start to break down slowly and not be providing the baby with all the nutrients it needs..
but this is of no concern to u as the maternity care u recieve now will be looking at all this and more..
the pains u describe might of been braxton hicks ...these are a pre run to labour pains...only these pains go away after a while where as real contractions dont...
i would spend this time enjoying the freedom u have as once the baby is born it will take up alot of ur time...aand please put ur feet up and chill out ....have a massage or pedicure/manicure...spoil urself. it wont happen again for a long while...
all the best....good luck.....xx.

It is actually not the hospitals call but your doctors. The hospital is there just follow the doctors orders.

ll doctors are different. Some will induce at 37 weeks just so they can go on vacation. Some will induce just because mom is uncomfortable. Some won't induce until it i past the due date. Good doctors will let you go 2 weeks past your due date. The good ones know that a full term pregnancy can be between 38 and 42 weeks. One baby will be fine at 38 weeks but another might not be.

Labor will go a lot better if you wait for it to start on it's own. If you fight against mother nature then things can go wrong. Labor is more painful for starters. Baby might not be ready and it will have a hard time settling into the birth canal. You have a bigger chance of having a c-section.

Just let mother nature do it's work. There is hormones present that help mother and baby when labor is allowed to progress without intervention.

Good luck. You don't have too much longer.

It's usually your doctor who decides when an induction would be appropriate. So unless you don't have a doctor, that's who you need to talk to. My doctor with my first let me go to 42 weeks before inducing. But my doctor with my 2nd and 3rd induced me at 41 weeks. I know exactly how you are feeling, I just had my baby 2 1/2 weeks ago. And every day for the last month until I had her felt like an eternity. But if you can hold out and go naturally on your own, it's going to be a lot better experience then being induced. Trust me as soon as you have your baby, you'll think you were crazy for being so impatient. You'll be a lot happier if you have a good birth experience. Good luck!

I thinkit depends on the hospital.

I worry about this a bit as I'm due December 8th and if they let me go 2 weeks overdue I don't really want to be stuck in a hospital bed over Xmas! Plus I don't think it does the baby any good to go that overdue.

What my Consultant does is he sees you when you go 1 week overdue - for me that is 15 December - and presumably they discuss what they are going to do then. If this happens to me I think I'd put my foot down and ask for an induction because I will probably be as fed up of wting as you are by then and like I said, don't really want to spend Xmas in hospital, I think it would be magical to come home with my baby for Christmas and have been looking forward to doing so

I have heard of hospitals letting you go 2 weeks overdue before they induce you, but to be honest you might have to put your foot down a bit and insist on being induced earlier. I think they have to understand that going overdue can be distressing and I see no reason why they shouldn't offer you a sweep or something to start you off. If that fails then they have to go to the next stage of admitting you and trying pessaries or picotin, but a sweep will often start things off naturally.

Of course being induced with pessaries or a picotin drip means being admitted to hospital plus the contractions can be much more painful from an induction (although if you're in hospital you could opt for an epidural).

I think you should really explain how you feel and ask if you couldn't at least have a membrane sweep, because thatwill sometimes start things off naturally.

it depends on the size of the baby and other things. i was 8 days late with my son and wasnt induced but its usually no later than 2 weeks u will get induced because there is lack of space in the womb for the baby.
i was in early labour with slight cramps and pains for a week. a friend of mine was induced but it doesnt always work right away . u can be given meds or a sweeping can sometimes set things off
good luck and congratulation :)

I went ten days over before I was induced.
The first treatment to soften my cervix didn't work, so I needed a second one. When labour finally started 14 hours later, (10:30 pm) everything was so quick, and I went into delivery suite at 3am.
My cervix stopped dilating at 6 1/2cm and baby was trying to push her way out, so had to have emergency caesarian at 4:15 am.
Not the most re-assuring answer you're likely to get, but you did ask for experiences!!
Hope all goes really really well for you chicken. xx

USUALLY doctor will not let you go 2 weeks past a due date around 40 weeks or 41 they may try to strip your membranes to get things going it nothing happens they induce by 42 weeks.

when i was pregnant the hospital said they only let you go 10 days over your due date.unless you have a show or bleed then they will sometimes agree to induce you as was the case with me.i bled slightly 2 weeks before my date and they said they wanted to induce me on the due date because of this.

def sounds like your baby is getting ready to meet you, how exciting, just try to remember, you have waited nearly 9 months to meet him, a few more days and the discomfort will be worth it, i thought it was 1 week past your due date but i have not had kids yet, so i would trust those that are saying 2 weeks if they have had children already. good luck sweetness and congratulations for in a few days time.
