What do you think of the new captain, and who do you think the new assistants will be??

I don't think they could have made a better choice. I've never been a die hard Red Wings fan but I have always loved most of the guys who played for them, Yzerman, Shannahan Chelios and of course, Scotty Bowman. But my all time favourite player in the NHL has always been Niklas Lidstrom. Without doubt he is one of the most talented players ever. Not many people know how to play the game better than he does and he has years and years of experience with which he will lead this team to some more great seasons. God I can't wait for the new season to start!

Lidstrom deserves it. Altho I am an Avs/Ducks fan, I like Lidstrom. He's got great talent. He, Neidermeyer and Pronger are the 3 best D men in the NHL. Hey!!! The Ducks have Neidermeyer AND Pronger. OOOOppppps!!! LOL Believe me, I would have much rather had Lidstrom than Chris "the Prick" Pronger. But whatevuh!! At least he won't be beating the crap out of Teemu everytime the Ducks play him now. BTW ... Teemu says that Lidstrom is the best D man he's ever played against.

Actually it is not official yet. The Fress Press said Lidstrom is going to be named captain, the team says they haven't discussed it yet. Either way, I think he is the right choice. If the Wings do like they have the past seasons they have 2 set of A's--one set for road games and and the other set for home games.

No way both one in all them will be captain. Datsyuk won't be able to talk English. As he places it "I talk one and 0.5 languages." Kronwall stands out as the subsequent captain. he's dedicated to the Wings for 7 years, he's realized from from Lidstrom because that day a million of his NHL journey. he is going to quickly be the backbone of the pink Wings protection. Kronwall will be captain with Zetterberg and Datsyuk being the options.

Well, Nicklas Lidstrom's the best choice for captain, but I don't think Stevie Y's replaceable. I thought it would have been Chris Chelios, but I guess he'll get an A. If goalies could get an A, Dominik Hasek would get the another one but they can't, so Paval Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg should get it instead.

there could not be a wing more deserving of the captaincy than lidstrom. i gotta say he is a good leader. there will never be a great leader like yzerman again. however, lidstrom is similar to yzerman in how he can lead by example. draper and zetterberg and datsyuk are my choices for the assistant captains. draper can score big goals and motivate the team. datsyuk and zetterberg can score and are young enough to be taught how to lead a team by example. when yzerman retired, he left a big hole in which cannot be completely filled by any one player alone. it takes three types of players to do what he did for the team. it takes a player who leads by example, a player who can motivate using words, and one player to carry the team when they need it. shanny going to ny rangers was another blow to this team. whoever will be the assistant captains will need to step in and be ready to help carry the load.

mattimos. Have you turned the TV on in the last few months??? Stevie Y has retired and Shanny is a ranger now. Lidstrom is by far the best choice for captian.

He's one of the top 5 defenseman in the NHL as far as captain goes I'm sure he has the respect of his team mates and will do a fine job leading by example

Well even though it isn't official, my money would definitely be on Lidstrom. I'd have to go with Zetterberg with the "A" and th other one is a toss up.
