I've never heard of a Republican's adulterous affair being described as a private matter. I'm not sure of any politicians to whom you refer, but I'd say that one big time church guy who was raked over the coals for a few years was most likely a Republican. His adulterous affair was as widely covered as any Democrat's has been.
