go down to jack london square and walk around until one of the many good places catches your eye

Go to Alameda; eat at Pier 29 (they used to be in Oakland on the O-town side of the Park street bridge) or Berkeley for Celia's or Spengers. Try up along College Avenue for lots of fun places like the Kona Lounge.

I would check out local restaurants and look at the ratings on the
web. I have done this many time, and it has really helped me.

also the location.

Cambodian restaurant (Pnomh Penh) on Alice street in Chinatown.
Yoshi's for Japanese.
Scott's for seafood.
