manipulate my thinking in the bad way, or someone i'm "connected" to in a bad way? it doesn't matter, the only thing that manipulates my thinking is what i see and what i'm shown.

Nope. The only thing that 'manipulates' the way I think about a person that I'm 'connected' to in a bad way is the bad things that I know he's done.
