My son had a ps2 but it got damaged and no longer works . I thought about getting another one, but he does not have that many games for it, and I believe those can be sold or traded in at a game shop.Right? Anyhow I just want peoples opinions on which is the better system and why?

Ok Fanboys have gone nuts on this one. Each system has it's advantages and disadvantages. I own all 3 and I use them all for different things.

Here's a basic breakdown:
PS2 - Most game choice, better game quality typically of the game systems you selected. You'd be hard pressed to not find games your son enjoyed on PS2 cause they are so many choices. I don't know your son's age so that is a good factor as well. Since he already had one you may want a new experiance. I think PS2 is the best because of the game choice and it has the most games that I enjoy. A used one would be cheap as well, maybe like $100-$130. It can also play playstation 1 games increasing game library

Gamecube - Better graphics than PS2, more originality in games, but a smaller game selection. People consider PS2 the "Kiddie Game" console but that's not completely true (Resident Evil 4 started on GC and was exclusive for quite a while, and it still scares me at 24 years old....maybe I'm a pansy). Gamecube games, especially the mario sport series and mario party would be great for younger and older kids. Plus Gamecube excels at trying no ideas in games and different ways to play. Cost would be $80 - $100 for a used or new one.

xbox360 - Best graphics and most expensive hands down. Horrible game selection currently. 360 is more of an adult system right now and doesn't have much that a younger kid could enjoy. It is filled with mostly racing, sports and First person shooter games right now, but has a little variety otherwise. It is "next gen" (that is debatable since it still uses DVD and only really improved graphics from xbox1) which means it'll be more "compatible" with future electronics in terms of getting the most use out of what you bought it for. Cost will be high $200s to $400 used to new. 360 also offers Xbox live meaning you can play online. I wouldn't recommend that for a younger kid though. A teen could handle it, but not everyone is so friendly on live. An xbox360 cannot play regular xbox games without getting emulators from xbox live first. That is free to use. To play online is a fee of $60/year or monthly.

I would recommend just about any of them except I'd wait to see what Nintendo's Wii or Sony's PS3 will offer before I got a 360 for your son. If you really want to get him a console now, stick with PS2 or the Gamecube from the 3 you mentioned. Hope that helps!

Ok, you can't compare the Xbox360 with the Gamecube or PS2. Its like comparing 2005 model car to a 2000 model car, totally different generations.

GC is directed towards younger people, say young kids. Their game library emphasizes this. Also you don't need deep pockets to buy a GC or to get the games. My recommondation is that if you do decide to go the Nintendo route, that you wait 3-4 months when the Wii comes out. It's going to cost probably $170-300 dollars, which is very cheap for a next generation system. The games also, will probably be much cheaper then the other next generation systems. The new Wii, while it's not going to be as powerful as the Xbox 360, or PS3 hardware-wise, it will provide a most unique gaming experience because the controls for the Wii have motion sensors. Imagine, playing a tennis video game by swinging the controller around instead of hitting buttons!

The PS2, is the best of the previous generation systems. The game library covers a very broad audience. You have games for kids and adults. Now I do not recommend waiting 3 months for the release of the PS3 unless you have really deep pockets. The system itself is going to cost $600+. So by the time you get all the add-ons and throw in tax, etc., you are looking at probably $800. The PS3, will be backwards compatible, which means it can play most of the PS2 games. Also, like the Xbox 360, the games are probably going to be expensive. Finally the one of the most attractive features of the PS3 is that it comes with a Blu-Ray DVD drive. A Blu-Ray DVD drive is one of the two next generation DVD formats that is competeing for supremecy. A standalone Blu-Ray player costs just as much as a PS3.

The Xbox 360 on the other hand, some of the games have such beautiful graphics, my eyes almost welled up once. The system does not come cheap though, I believe the premium Xbox 360 costs $400, which includes everything you need minus a second wireless controller and wireless network adapter. Then you throw in $60 per game. To fully utilize the graphics of the 360 though, you are going to want to have a HD tv. Most Xbox 360 demo units in the stores, are connected to a LCD or Plasma HD TV. You are looking at a lot of money.

My final recommendation is that you get another PS2, you can probably find a cheap one on E-Bay or Amazon.com thats used. You won't have to worry about having uselss PS2 games lying around. Or you can invest in a Wii. I've also included links under this writing for each of the next generation systems. Good luck with your decision,

It all depends on how old the kid is if he is less than 12 I would say get a gamecube you can find them used for like 60 bucks and lots of games (that you can pick up for cheap) geared toward the younger ages. The PS2 is also a good choice for the slightly older kids still lots of kids games but will give you the option of getting more mature games as he ages. At this point I wouldn't recommend the 360 for kids because they lack the quantity of kid friendly games and it is an expensive system and games are still mostly 30 or more used. Don't get me wrong the 360 is a great system and i love mine but my 10 year old nephew and i still have more fun on my cube and PS2. Get the cheaper system and spend some of that saved money on some extra games.

Well the ones to go for now are the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii when they come out. The 360 has better graphics and has a big selection of mostly action games as with the PS3. they both have good on line play so you can play with other people over the Internet and be occupied forever. The Nintendo Wii has a bigger selection of 'fun' games with more cartoony graphics. you can use the control pads as virtual bats and things as they have little sensors in them which is pretty fun. Hope this helped. Ask your kid what he likes best :)

You know PS2 is very good, because even after 6 years it has A LOT of capabilities (in graphics, in gameplay... etc), with a wide range of games (I think 2,000) and is a very good console for your son, if he's young (or older). Yes, Xbox360 it is a good console and next-gen..., but in the graphics section. In 15th November is coming out the next-gen console PS3 and it's 100 times better, than Xbox360 and PS2 both of 'em, and in the gameplay section and in the graphics (believe me especially in this section!). In the end PS3 will be the best console ever made with a HUGE range of games and entertainment! Statistics will prove that in the straight future.

P.S.: I hope to choose PS2 (if you can't wait for PS3, that'll cost 500$-600$) and for your son's gaming sake and it's more economical (135$). Xbox360 costs 400$ + the hardware that you'll need.

I agree with what the above guy has said that Wii is cheap,But i dont think it can beat PS 3 ...
Of course among the three(x360,GC,ps2)X 360 is way better and way expensive too.But i think PS3 which will coming out in november 2006 will blast off X 360 consoles because of its varieties of games ....Wii can be a good competant for a ps3 but i dont think it will be able to beat a ps3.I know that the price of ps3 is very high(500-600$) but it wont be a waste(You buy consoles only once , You dont have to waste money on useless consoles,u gotta buy the best console)...and I will be buying a ps3 too but in the year 2007.PS 3 will be rocking and hope this helps(and u buy a ps3:))

I would wait a couple months a buy a nintendo WII. Nintendo has classic games for kids and the new controller design is motion sensitive. Here is the best reason to buy a WII..

XBOX 360 $400-$500
PS3 $500-$600
Nintendo WII- Less than $200.

Hope that helps

Xbox 360 is only good on an HDTV...and it's VERY expensive..and all the games are like $60 each. Gamecube is cheap, and has family games...not as many violent games as the other systems. Ps2 is also cheap, has online play, and has family games and "not-so family-type games"

Xbox 360 hands down. You don't need an HDTV though, but the picture will be much sharper with it. My games for the 360 look great without HD THOUGH
