Yes, Otitis media can cause vertigo and loss of balance. You should see a physician for antibiotics, but in the meantime, rinse your ear with hydrogen peroxide frequently (makes a bubbling sound in your ear and dry carefully)

Otitis media does not usually cause vertigo, this is the type of ear infection commonly found in children. Labryinthitis, however, which is inflammation of the canals of the inner ear will cause vertigo. The two are not quite the same.

It can. I get that problem a lot, so I have to be very careful bathing or swimming. Good ear drops have a drying agent in them, like alcohol. Swim Ear is one I've used, and I recommend it.
