I had a friend over yesterday with her children....anyways, I allow my children to watch Nickelodeon cartoons-spongebob, danny phantom, etc. Anyways, my children came home from school and turned on their tv. All the children were in their room watching it when my friend told me she does not allow them to watch those shows because "they teach them bad things" and "the parents do not take care of Timmy Turner, the fairies do", etc. I did change the channel but she didn't like the other cartoons either....

What makes me mad is that she lets her children play violent video games because it "teaches perserverance". What ever! I don't ask her not to play those games when I come over.

Isn't that asking too much???

Yes it is your house.

Only option to get away from the tv is you'll have to all go somewhere together like the park for the kids to play. I'm sorry but I'd probably told her up right off, it's my house and my kids watch it.

The only thing she was trying to prove... is to LOOK LIKE one of those mothers that knows more than anybody else. One of those that if she can find fault in every other mother, it makes her feel like she is doing a better job. She failed...hence the video games. I have a sister n law like that. She lives 9 hours away and my kids have gone and stayed with them a week or so and they come home and tell me what all they have done and it is the exact opposite of what she preaches to me about my kids.

If she doesn't like what YOUR kids watch on YOUR tv in YOUR house, then ask her not to bring her kids over. I know. Easier said than done.

This might not be a good answer, but something to think about. See if you can find some videos based on the violent games she lets her kids play and show those the next time they are over. See what she thinks of that.

Ask her what types of "bad things" they teach. I watch the Fairy Godparents (I love Cosmo) and she is wrong about the parents not taking care of Timmy. The show only portrays part of his life, the part with his interaction with the fairies. Would she say that Charlie Brown's parents neglected him? You never saw his parents, or any adults for that matter. It was the style the creator used to focus on the subject.

Personally, I think people who have problems with kids watching shows like Sponge Bob and the Fairy Godparents have other problems they need to address.

Sounds like this woman needs to stop being so controlling. If this woman is a good friend of yours, have a talk with her, tell her how you feel and stay calm the whole time. Go from there.

we as people just have way too many problems of our own which we neglect, so it is easier to bug others about stupid stuff.
