No, you still have a very good chance of dilating on your own. Fetal movement slowing is normal, and can be a very good indicator of impending labor. I am so excited for you! I agree with every one that is telling you to walk, walk, walk. It is great exercise and encourages labor. Another thing you can do is to have sex. Studies show that an orgasm causes the uterus to contract slightly, lessening menstrual cramps in non-pregnant women and might also encourage labor in expectant mothers. ( I saw this on TLC) Best of luck and Congrats on your new baby!

There is always a possibility of needing induction, but you won't have to think about that for another 3-4 weeks at least. Dilation can sometimes be delayed until labor begins, especially in first pregnancies. 40 weeks is considered full-term and you have 3 more weeks or possibly more to go. Yes, it is perfectly normal for fetal movement to decrease as labor approaches. Your baby is growing quite large now and the room to move in the uterus is more restrictive. If he/she is already in the head-down position he/she will most likely remain that way until birth, but it is still possible for the position to change. Unless there is a medical reason, try to avoid inducing if you can. Everyone I know who has been induced has had very hard labors with very painful contractions. Relax and enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy.

The doctor will decide if you need to be induced but usually they won't induce unless you're over 40 weeks. I hear that inducing labor can be painful so try to do what you can to help with the dilation. Try walking!! Once my doctor talked to me about a possible induction of my labor, I went out and immediately started taking walks. Guess what, I dropped and dilated at least 1 cm. So walking definately might help you with dialating. It helped me. Yes, it is normal for fetal movement to decrease because the baby has less space to move around. Good Luck!

If your doctor feels that your baby is in trouble then yes he will induce - before 42 weeks. Otherwise they normally wait until a week or so after your due date. With my first son, I went in to see my doctor for a regular check up a week before my due date and was still not dilated at all. 3 days before my due date I found myself in labor and still only dilated to 1 by the time I went in to the hospital. I sat at home for 8 hours before going. My doctor waited until 6 hours later to use pitocin to induce because I had only dilated to 2 at that point, and the labor was getting stronger.
Fetal movement does slow down when it gets closer to labor, but the doctor will be monitoring that, and if he feels there is distress, be prepared. But you still have a couple weeks to go likely, so don't panic yet.
Good luck!

No it doesn't mean you will be getting induced. Most doctors wont induce you until you are past the due date. It is normal for the fetal movement to slow down. They have gotten big and there isn't much room for them to get moving like before. A good way to try to get things started is alto of walking and I know this sounds crazy but having intercourse will also help. Best of luck and God Bless~!

They will not induce you unless they see a problem or you go past your due date.
And about not being dilated, that's ok. Sometimes it happens really quickly and all at once.
It is normal for fetal movement to slow down, especially if the baby is engaged in your pelvis.

yes, it is normal for the fetal movement to start slowing down. Don't worry about getting induced, they had to induce me too, they just put some medicine up in there (you don't feel it) and then you go to sleep, and in the morning you wake up and about 13 hours later you have a baby!
yea, and drink raspberry tea, that's what they tell everyone to do at the hospital.

It is very normal for the fetus to slow down. But you should still feel it, just not as often. It's getting real crowed in there. You technically have three weeks to go, just relax. Don't jump to getting induced, unless it's medically necessary. Let the baby come when he/she is ready. You might even go over.Be sure to walk every day, drink plenty of water. And get lots of sleep, cause it will all change....
Good Luck.

You're fine. And most first time Moms don't dilate until active labor. Or at least I didn't. And the baby is running out of room and therefore isn't going to move as much. Stay clam and enjoy this last three weeks of being this close to your baby.
