If I use the seem tape will I have to iron them every time I wash them? I know I would have to cut them...they are way too long. Will the hem stay if I'm not putting a stitch in?

Temporary Hem Pants

It sounds like you want a temporary hem, and in that case I would not cut them. Roll them under to the desired length, and using a press cloth, give them a good firm pressing, then tack them up by hand. The hand stitching will be much easier to remove later. If this is to be a permanent hem, start by letting the hem down, by picking out the stitches. Mark the length you want, and then cut 1 1/4 inches lower than the marks. If you have a serger, serge the cut edge, or use the zig zag on your sewing machine. Press up 1 1/4 inches and either hand stitch, or use your machine's blind hem feature. Press with a press cloth.

The best thing to use is and iron on hem/seam tape. Found in all sewing departments of stores. You iron the area to hem lay the tape down on the fabric fold over the part that needs to be hemmed and iron again. Let it cool. Your done. Husband in the military for 20 yrs, works wonders. Quick easy and best of all no needle holes or puckers.

Fold the hem from the outside in and pin it. Then turn it inside out and mark where you want the new hemline to be so that the line will be even. Then sew it with black thread. Maybe this answer is a given but it's the simplest and best way to do the job without it being to obvious.

Depending on the size of the cuff... If it is a small one, just Iron them to the fold you want and tack them on each seam with the same color thread. You'll have to re- iron them after each wash though and be careful when you take them on or off. Watch your foot doesn't rip the stitch

If it is a huge cuff... Take them to a tailor and have them cut and re stiched by sewing machine.

I think that it would be best just to take them to a dry cleaner or a tailor. It is a pretty inexpensive process. I recently had a pair of pants hemmed and it cost me about $7.

Well you can always go to wal-mart and get the sticky thing that you just iron onto them to hold the hem and it looks seamless.

Also I recommend taking them to the dry-cleaners to have it done. I believe that it usually cost about $5.00 to do so, cheap and it is done by profes.
