If you go further back then you'd see that your ancestors come from some country in Africa. To know your roots is good. It keeps you grounded and gives you a sense of belonging. But also know this, were you still living in that place, all the amenities and opportunities may not have been available to you. So rejoice at what you do have.

Yes, our identity is important to us.

I have no problem with my colour (Asian-brown) or ancestry (I know what ethnic group all my ancestors are supposed to have belonged) But we haven't kept records. Some gaps even about great grandparents. It's only names beyond that. Never mind! I have no problem.

But you do. Some years ago I read Roots by ---Hailey. Powerful stuff. Yes, the world was cruel to you.

What other comfort can I give you...?

I can say ...

I understand!

Yes, I feel much better knowing who my great grandparents, great great grandparents were and etc. You can search for geneology websites and libraries offer free memberships to these sites, so you may want to start there. You need your parents names and your grandparents names to begin to build your family tree. My family does a slide show and special presentation at family reunions... on my Mom's and Dad's side. Its so fantastic. Maybe you'll be the one in your generation to start such a tradition. I hop you learn about your past!

I wonder about that all the time, specially because my family is the result of one big blend, from my mother's side my ancestors came from france and spain, and from my dad's side my ancestors come from syria and the netherlands.
My sister and I have decided to get our genealogical tree done, it sure is a lot of work, but it's interesting to know where you come from.

good luck with your research!

you can start by talking to your kinfolks and asking for family records , local health dept., courthouse, any place records are stored. there are many on-line sources to track your heritage. I suggest you read a guide on the subject, so head to the public library first and find a book on genealogy and get to work.

I know a little of my ancestors on my Fathers side. (The Border Reivers on the Scottish/English border many years ago).

I like to think it explains why I have such a fighting spirit and can handle any weather!
