No don't give a 5 week old prune juice. Water down his formula. Let's say you make a 4oz bottle you give him two scoops of formula. Well instead of 4oz make it 5oz and still give him two scoops of formula. If you have the ready mix just add an extra oz of water to it. It worked for me. Good Luck.

Well my son is 3 months and I just had that problem because they switched his formula. I use the infant suppositories however I would use that as a last choice because it can make him have the runs really bad for a few days. At least my son did and he was cranky. You can use prune or pear juice make sure you use 2 ounces of water for every ounce of juice. You can take a teaspoon of kayro syrup and add it in with water or formula. You can use some Vaseline and stick your finger up his butt slowly and twist it around a little and he should go that way. I know I called my paediatrician and she said if he did not go within 3 days to use the suppository and it had been 5 so that is why I used it. I would recommend giving him an ounce of juice a day with 2 ounce of water that way he does not get constipated anymore. I have been giving my son juice and he goes at least every other day or every 2 days. Good luck.

How olds the baby? I dont recommend Prune Juice, u should talk to a PEDIATRICIAN b4 trying something like that with a newborn. U can try switching the formula. How do you know that the baby is constipated, are the stools hard? Lil at a time? Or is it just gas? If so try drops before the feeding. None the less seek med advise.

We had the same problem with our little girl who is now 2. She too was on soy formula. The Pediatrician told us to give her 2-4 oz. of baby apple juice a day. We did and the problem went away after the second day.
Be careful though. Once they get a taste of juice they love it and want it all the time.

You dont say how many days he's been like that.

Sometimes you dont realy need to do anything even if he doesnt have a B.M in 2-3 days.
Try to move his legs around and up his tummy, dont dilute his formula, you need him to get the nutrients he needs.
Give him some boiled water.
The ped. say it is normal even if he has 1 bM in a week as long as it is soft and creamy. IF it is hard, more like human then he is realy constipated and need to ask a doctor after you try giving him some water.

my daughter was also bottle fed with soy formula...my grandmother used Karo syrup (just a tad) but it took forever to make it work...I called my pediatrician and she recommened glycerin suppositories. They make baby sized suppositories and they work inside of 30 minutes. You can get them at any drug store. This will be helpful for both of you because your babies tummy will stop hurting and you can get some peace from the fussing.

I wouldn't use prune juice he is too young... you probably need to switch him to a low iron formula, and I have used a tiny bit of karo in their bottle before when they were that small.. that will make them go... you could also try and put a bit of petroleum jelly on the tip of your pinky and stick it in his bottom real easy and it is sprt of like an enema.. or you can use enemas..

We had this horrible problem also, and she was so miserable. We went off Soy Milk period! It even constipates adults. Talk to your doctor and try Nurtamigen Lipil. If you dont want to switch then try Karo corn syrup in his bottle. I hated Soy Formula!

The best thing to do is to consult your pediatrician first but some other suggestions are cranberry juice( just alittle mixed in water) a few drops of karo's syrup in the milk, suppositories, or rectal thermometer. They all worked for me:)
